Christ Is Our Example

21 For (A)you have been called for this purpose, (B)because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you (C)an example, so that you would follow in His steps, 22 He who (D)committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in His mouth; 23 [a]and while being (E)abusively insulted, He did not insult in return; while suffering, He did not threaten, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously; 24 and He Himself [b](F)brought our sins in His body up on the [c](G)cross, so that we (H)might die to [d]sin and live for righteousness; (I)by His [e]wounds you were (J)healed. 25 For you were (K)continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the (L)Shepherd and [f]Guardian of your souls.

Godly Living

(M)In the same way, you wives, (N)be subject to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be (O)won over without a word by the behavior of their wives, as they observe your pure [g]and respectful behavior. (P)Your adornment must not be merely the external—braiding the hair, wearing gold jewelry, or putting on apparel; but it should be (Q)the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God. For in this way the holy women of former times, (R)who hoped in God, also used to adorn themselves, being subject to their own husbands, just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, (S)calling him lord; and you have proved to be her children if you do what is right [h](T)without being frightened by any fear.

(U)You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with [i](V)someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.

Bear One Another’s Burdens

I wrote to you in my letter (A)not to associate with sexually immoral people; 10 I did not at all mean with the sexually immoral people of this world, or with the greedy and swindlers, or with (B)idolaters, for then you would have to leave the world. 11 But [a]actually, I [b]wrote to you not to associate [c]with any so-called (C)brother if he is a sexually immoral person, or a greedy person, or (D)an idolater, or is verbally abusive, or habitually drunk, or a swindler—not even to eat with such a person.

The Cure for Anxiety

25 (A)For this reason I say to you, [a]do not be (B)worried about your [b]life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 (C)Look at the birds of the sky, that they do not sow, nor reap, nor gather crops into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more important than they? 27 And which of you by (D)worrying can (E)add a single [c]day to his [d]life’s span? 28 And why are you (F)worried about clothing? Notice how the lilies of the field grow; they do not labor nor do they spin thread for cloth, 29 yet I say to you that not even (G)Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the (H)grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? (I)You of little faith! 31 Do not (J)worry then, saying, ‘What are we to eat?’ or ‘What are we to drink?’ or ‘What are we to wear for clothing?’ 32 For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for (K)your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But [e]seek first [f]His kingdom and His righteousness, and (L)all these things will be [g]provided to you.
